On September 26, 2017, Cambridge librarian Liz Phipps Soeiro wrote to Mrs. Trump to explain why her public school would not be keeping the books donated by the White House. Soeiro also suggested a list of ten titles (featured below), "that I hope will offer you a window into the lives of the many children affected by the policies of your husband’s administration."
Teaching for Change applauds Soeiro's response. We have added her list of recommendations to the more than 50 curated social justice children's booklists at our Social Justice Books website.
Titles with reviews from the See What We See coalition are noted with an asterisk(*).
Teaching for Change carefully selects the best multicultural and social justice books for children, young adults, and educators. Learn about our criteria for selecting titles. Feedback on these lists and suggestions for additional titles are welcome. The books on these lists are linked for more information or purchase to Powells, an independent, union labor bookstore.
